those costumes are awesome!!!!! ^^
I was looking around Deviant art for someone who actually made Allen Walker's costume cause a friend and I are planning to do so and I was wondering if you could share any tips when making it, like where to start, what type of cloak pattern to buy, fabric etc.
Thanks a bunch!
k
Actually, I did not use any cloak pattern because I cannot work with them. I just took a jacket and copied + modified its pattern ^^ And we decided to use black and white leather for the coats, because it looked the best, and fur + white cotton for the cloak he's wearing.
also, can you remember what type of jacket did you use as a basis? For instance, do you have a picture of it or something similar? Also, do you think that using heavy black material would work instead of leather?
k
You can use any fabric you like, but leather looked the best (basically because sewing white leather on black leather is far easier IMHO). But it is your decision, I see no problem with fabric.
right, now... I've gotten a selection of patterns to use, so that wouldn't be a problem.
btw, thanks for helping out.
anyway, you said that leather/pleather would be idea correct? I would like to knowfor what reasons. Is it because of the sheen, or maybe the drape of the fabric? or is it just because the heavy-ness of the garment fits the character?
If I completely disregarded the points above and used cotton (or any other similar fabric), would that still maintain the same effect?
also, do you have any tips on sewing the white attachments? Do you sew two pieces of narrow fabric right sides together and then turn the 'strip' inside out? or did you simply sew on one layer of fabric? If so, did you overlock the edges? or did you simply fold the edges in and attach it in that manner?
One last thing. did you line your garment?
Thank you for answering my questions, and geez, you create such kick ass costumes!

Actually I tried to sew the coat using thick black cotton and - at least I - thought afterwards that it looked horrible. The drape was not good at all. *sley (who was to wear it) suggested a rather thin leather and we tried that, surprised how good it looked. You can see the result in the pictures.
Well, you CAN use any fabric you like, it is still a matter of taste. So it is up to you. Just choose anything that is heavy enough.
Which attachments do you mean? The white ones on the coat are just cut out of white leather (you do not have to hem it) and sewn onto the black fabric. Leather can be sewn very easily if you use some skin cream on the material.
And I do not line them often. Just if you really can see the interior (long coats, sleeves et cetera) or if I like the character very much *cough*
btw it's k again
thanks again for your help and time but we may still have some more questions (sorry!) if we actually attempt to make the coat.
heh, your english is probably better than mine and I speak it! if the cotton one didn't work too well, I think that we will reconsider using leather or a heavier material. And yes, the attachments that we were referring to were the white strips and I guess that if you used leather, then there would be no need to hem them to stop them from fraying.
Good to know that you don't line them too often and it is still passable because I think that lining would be just a little too challenging for me.
Also, roughly how long did this project take you?
thanks again for your help! ^^

This was my first coat this style, so with school and everything else... I think it took around one week for everything. Making the coat fit on *sley was the hardest, because she had to try it on several times.
But I'm sure you'll make it =3 Just try out. And remember, if you really use leather, help yourself out with putting skin cream on the leatherparts you are sewing together. It's much easier then, even if it sounds funny.
